Keep using your American Express Costco card through June 19th (Sunday)
Start using your new Citi card on Monday, June 20th.
Your Costco rewards will be carried over to your Citi card automatically
If you received your new Citi card, activate/check-in your card. You can do so by calling or getting online. It took me about 5 minutes (or less) to check-in online.
I don’t know about you, but I have absolutely no reason to use an American Express card anymore. I’ve always thought American Express was hoity-toity. Costco was the only reason I opened the account.
You know what… I never
You know what… I never thought about this would effect my credit score
25 points is a not a joke. I wonder how long it will take to gain back 25 points.
So I have been a Costco
So I have been a Costco Member since 2013. Also, I have had the American Express since day one. When I caught wind of Costco Partnering with Citi, my biggest concern was not how smoothly the transition would go. It was the fact that closing a credit account and opening another can hurt your credit score. This was apparently a concern of many. Costco announced that this would not occur but would only be a transition from one creditor to another (same account) and would have no effect on credit scores. I Pulled my credit report today and apparently AMEX reported a closed account. Needless to say, My credit score went down some 25 Points. I don’t even know who to be upset with right now, Amex for reporting a closed account, or The “Big Wigs at Costco for making broken promises. Is anyone else seeing this issue? And what can we do?
