While many companies are enduring tough times, Costco seems to be bucking the trend.
Co-founder Jim Sinegal spoke about the business at a Portland Business Journal breakfast.
"We found ourselves ready to open and without a name so we used Costco," he said.
The first Costco opened in Kirkland in 1983 as a place for businesses to shop.
Sinegal got his retail experience starting at 18 years old, working for similar warehouse clubs in California.
