I get a craving for pizza once in a while. I would like to enjoy pizza late Saturday night, or when I’m home alone feeling cozy. But, I live alone, so I need a little planning to enjoy pizza.
Pizza is family-oriented food. Going to a pizza restaurant alone is not only depressing, but it’s too expensive. I don’t want to have a pizza delivered to my house and ended up with a massive amount of leftover. That’s also too expensive. In both cases, just a tip alone will buy me 2-3 slices of Costco pizza.
So, this is what I do. I buy Costco’s Take and Bake pizza, slice them up, and freeze them. They last many months in the freezer. I enjoy pizza whenever I have a craving for it, and they will cost me $1.50 each slice. I can top it off with whatever I want. Since I enjoy my kitchen, baking pizza when I’m home alone is an absolute joy. It’s the most economical way for a single person to enjoy a good pizza.
Preparing Costco pizza for the long term, single serving, storage
- Take pepperoni off the pizza
- Cut pizza into 6 slices
- Put pepperonis back on (6 slices each)
- Wrap each slice with Kirkland Signature Stretch-Tite Plastic Food Wrap.
- Put them in Ziploc freezer bags.
** Costco’s take and bake pepperoni pizza has 36 slices of pepperoni
I broke my pizza cutter and I may never buy another pizza cutter again. I cut pizza maybe once a year. And there are plenty of people, including professionals, using kitchen shears to cut pizza.
They’ve discontinued the take and bake pizzas at our Costco.
Oh, that’s a news… No take and bake?
Thank you.
This is a great idea and easier way to freeze instead of wrestling with a whole one. I did kinda the same thing with one of their chicken pot pies (which we love but don’t want to eat all week!). Pop the whole pie in the freezer for an hour or two to firm it up, take it out and cut into fours and wrap each quarter in plastic wrap. Then tuck the quarters back into the container, pop on the lid and freeze. Thaw and bake one quarter, plenty for a couple nights for a single person, or one night with a side salad for two eaters. Was a tip from the employee selling the pies, I’m sure he sold a ton. Now if I could only do the same with the pumpkin pies . . . .
Oh~~ That’s a good idea. Firm it up. I will remember that. Thank you
I love this idea – frozen pizza isn’t very good. Although, one time I got a free plastic pizza cutter in a DiGiorno box and it works amazingly well to this day. What temperature do you use for the oven and how long?
I use pizza baking stone and bake at 450 degrees (F). I don’t remember for how long (5-15 min ?). I constantly watch it until it bubbles. Also, I touch the crust to make sure it’s at my liking.
I do something similar except it’s the three meat pizza from Sams club. In my opinion it’s much better than Costco’s pizza. The only thing I think sams does better than Costco.
I buy the pizza whole, already cooked and ask them to cut it in squares. Eat a bit that day and freeze the rest in a gallon bag.
Usually eat it all within a few months. Toaster oven or in the microwave. It’s delicious.
Your idea is great, I may try it. Thanks.
Btw your closet is amazing.
Hi, thank you, thank you for your message.
Ah~~ you freeze already cooked pizza. I think pizza will last longer that way, because you don’t have to worry about fresh ingredients going bad. Also, cutting uncooked pizza is kind of a hassle. I think your way may be better.
Thank you for your compliment on my closet. Maybe you’ve been following my blog for several years… anyway, my old time visitors know that I used to have a very small closet. My root is humble. I recently started to get better paychecks.
Have a nice day
