Founder of Price Club, Sol Price dies 93

Sol Price (January 23, 1916 – December 14, 2009) was the founder of FedMart and Price Club (since merged into Costco). He is considered a pioneer of the “warehouse store” retail model. He was a 1934 graduate of San Diego State University, and in 1938 earned a law degree from the University of Southern California Law School. Price was admitted to the California Bar in November 1938.

Price Club was merged into Costco in 1993.

I couldn’t find the cause of his death.

Costco Shopping / Single Living

* 41st Costco Shopping this year, 1st time this month.

I am tired and busy. But I was bored. So I went to Costco.

I had nothing on my shopping list, but I thought I would find something.

Basically, everything I bought today is something I didn’t “have to” buy.

I bought really fancy Christmas cards. I don’t know what I will do with 60 gift tags.

Crackers and Olives were totally for fun. I am likely to stay home alone for Christmas. So, that was my excuse to buy some snacks.

Update 2021 – I still have about a half box of the Christmas cards. I use 1-2 cards a year.

Costco Carr's Crackers

Then I saw the box of Carr’s crackers. They had pictures of crackers with cheese and stuff on them. They looked so cute, so I thought I do that as well.

This is what I had for dinner. I used some leftover ham from Thanksgiving. The onion was too strong, but it was good.

It looks a little pathetic, but it was fun doing it alone.

Costco Shopping – November 30, 2009

* 40th Costco Shopping this year, 3rd time this month.

Hm… my plan was to go to Costco less than 3 times a month so I would save some money.

I went to Costco for some staple items.

I never liked Calvin Klein. I never liked name-brand clothes. But I’ve been buying a lot of CK stuff lately, mainly because Costco sells them cheap.

What can I say, designer clothes make people look better?  They have better cut & fit. I blame Costco for spoiling me.

Anyway, those Calvin Klein belts were only $25.00 a pair.

Update (less than a year later) – those belts turned out to be cheap quality. I trashed them.

Thanksgiving 2009

I was home alone for Thanksgiving Day.

I was not sad or felt lonely. I have mastered the art of being alone. I am perfectly fine.
I entertained myself. I was very productive. I spent a few nights working until the sun came up. It was an enjoyable weekend.

I made both turkey & ham for myself. I spent about 3 hours in the kitchen. Turkey was very tender. I glazed the ham. I watched Twilight Zone Marathon as I work in the kitchen.

Dinner came out good. I enjoyed it very much.

I had so much food leftover that I vacuum-packed half of all my food and put them in the freezer.

Thanksgiving Day

Day after Thanksgiving – Leftover

Just when I thought I would spend the entire weekend alone, one of my wedding photography clients invited me to their family dinner on Saturday. I took pictures of their wedding a few years ago.

I went to their house with a jar of “Chocolates of the World” as a gift. They had a big family. There were about 20 people. I used my usual charm, and we got along fine. It was a good time.

Although I spent most of my 4 days weekend alone, Thanksgiving 2009 turned out to be a memorable one.

I had a good time. It was so much fun working on my projects. It’s good to be alive.

Costco Shopping – November 19, 2009

* 39th Costco Shopping this year, 2nd time this month.

Last 2 months, I spent more money than I made. So I am careful with money. I think I am doing OK this month. I booked 2 wedding photography gigs that I almost doubled my income this month. I have a few small gigs lined up next month as well. I need to be careful with money.

I enjoyed today’s Costco shopping. I spent about 2 hours there. I looked everywhere. I talked to a nice lady who recommended to me which cheese I should try.

Today’s shopping items need to be divided into 2 groups.

First group – Normal, everyday items.

I bought 2 Calvin Klein long sleeves shirts – they go with my Calvin Klein jeans. Those shirts were adorable. They were $18.99 each.

The second group – for Thanksgiving.
I will be home alone for this Thanksgiving Day (the entire weekend). Please don’t feel sorry for me, because I enjoy being alone. I manage to entertain myself. It would be better if I spend time with my family and have a good dinner. But I’m still good.

Anyway… I bought some treats for Thanksgiving weekend. I still have to buy gravy, stuffing, & cranberry sauce…

I plan to watch TV, DVD, and work on my personal projects. I will enjoy some coffee and diet Pepsi.

* I saved $16.25 with the coupons.

I spent total $217.87 (w/ gas)
