I am currently a Frontier FiOS customer. Look below at my cable/internet/phone price. See how it increased from $149.57 to $194.29 in 12 months. I didn’t add any services, and yet, the price went up $44.72 in 12 months. If this is not getting screwed, I don’t know what is.
When I first joined Verizon about 10 years ago, my special discount price was about $125/mo. After 2 years of price lock-down, they started to jack up the price on me. I kept calling them to lock down the low price, but they would only give me a higher price than before. And they kept raising the price as if they are testing my limit. And I am finally seeing my limit.
This is it. I refuse to pay more than $150/mo on cable/internet/phone service. $150/mo is $1800 a year. That’s a lot of money. Many people don’t take home $1800 a month. $150 is what I pay for electric, gas, water, and trash collection combined.
Most people I know pay more than $150 on cable TV bundles. Those most people make less money than I do. That’s yet another topic.
Tomorrow I am switching to Spectrum. I will pay $117/mo for the next 12 months. So, I will save $927 in the next 12 months. After 12 months, they will increase the price to $142/mo. I will still save $627.48 a year compared to my current provider. Anyway, I will not pay $1800 a year on TV/Internet/Phone.
I absolutely hate cable companies for jerking us around with insane price and rate increases. I am this close to drop cable TV altogether. They can kiss my ass.

Hate Frontier terrible customer service. They want your ss# birth certificate passport and say it’s for your protection. BS it’s to help them background check you and it exposes you to I’d theft.
Yes, “hate” is the correct description for me. I would rather pay more at Hulu – as long as the cable company takes less money from me.
When I called Frontier for price quote, they asked me for my SSN – and ran my credit.
I kept telling her “But, I only need a quote. I will not open account”. She explained to me that is the only way. They needed to run my credit so they can give me a quote.
Any chance you can give us an update on the Spectrum move? Local Facebook is always asking “whos Best?” Spectrum seems to always be the price jump leader? After retiring from Frontier/Verizon/GTE, all discounts are gone and when asking for an internet-only quote, I was quoated 95.00 for 500/500 and an 85.00 visit charge to hook up a new fiber feed router..45.00 advertised is only for new customers
Hi. Welcome.
1.
Even though I cancelled cable TV, I think $150 for phone/internet/TV packageis a pretty dang good price. If you really enjoy TV then $150 is good… maybe even $170(?) But, $170 ($85/m for cable TV) is painful to me.
2.
Spectrum internet price seems pretty good. Connection is good. I pay $80 for internet and phone (land-line). So far that’s as good as I can find. Yes, Verizon goes over $90/m for internet and phone(land-line). And yes, Verizon charges $85 for installation.
*Verizon’s estimate of $90+ is without Wifi service. I told her I will use my own wifi router.
3.
I installed my own WiFi router and I don’t pay for WiFi service. I save $5/m forever.
My router is Medialink AC1200.
4.
I will look at other internet providers, but Spectrum seems to be the one for me. $80/m seems expensive (because I am old school from $15/m internet), but it’s the best deal so far.
Please be safe.
The exact reason why so many are leaving cable behind to stream.
yes… I was SOOOO close to quit cable TV altogether.
Dropped DirecTV, cable only. Was 158.00/included HBO/Showtime. As I was online dropping it I noticed it just went up to 178.00 WHAT? Direct Now we switched to just the end of last month/March, 55.00 channel package. Now discontinued and they instantly jumped it to 60.00? Wow, another call to make. Roku unit 78.00 one time purchase. (Cheaper versions are like 30.00) I have the Costco remote they sold so you load all your items on it.
I know, it’s like James Taylor song. Cable companies will take your soul if you let them.
But, don’t you let them~~*
Drop Cable. Hook up rabbit ears for free local stations, get Netflix and Sling TV. That is more than enough TV for anybody. Pay only $33/mo and invest the difference (Cable bill- new TV option) in index funds.
That is ridiculous! We do internet only through Frontier and tv is a mix of Amazon, Netflix and PlayStation Vue. Much cheaper and we feel like we always have something to watch.
Thank you. Exactly. That’s what I will be doing.
