Visiting San Francisco Bay Area Costco - March 2015

Mar
29

March 2015

It was an exciting weekend.  I visited Costco in San Francisco Bay Area.  Flying from Burbank to Oakland was just about an hour.  I rarely leave my comfort zone.  It was exciting to face the unknown.

Friday: I arrived at San Francisco Bay area late evening. The first thing I noticed was that people seemed classier in San Francisco Bay Area.  We went to a fast food restaurant for a late night bite.  Young people working there were classier than what I was used to.  Later, a bunch of high-school kids walked in for Friday night fun.  It was a group of kids in mixed races.  They were all well behaved, quiet, and classy.  Throughout the weekend, I saw nothing but classy people.  People were different there.  It was strange, and I liked it.

Saturday: We took BART, a public transportation subway system, to down town San Francisco for lunch.  It was not busy because today was Saturday.  But, now I know how people in the Bay area commute to the big city every day.

I had a good, authentic Chinese food for lunch.  Then I learned that they didn't take credit cards. Pretty much all restaurants in China Town had "Cash Only" signs.

Sunday: We went to Costco in Danville (San Francisco Bay Area).  The entire warehouse looked familiar, except they had an insane amount of coffees.  They had about twice as many coffee varieties compared to Costco in my area.  For example, at my Costco we have Peet's coffee (Major Dickason's Blend).  At Danville Costco, they had Peet's Coffee AND Peet's Coffee Organic.  Most coffees had organic versions at extra cost.

It was cool to see San Francisco Giant "World Series Champion" hoodies.  I felt the patriotism.

I didn't buy anything because I was flying back home in a few hours.

It was a glorious weekend I will never forget.  Good times..

Costco Kitchen Faucet - WaterRidge

Jan
17

I replaced the kitchen faucet.  Not only that, I finally installed the water filtration system I bought 2 years ago (from Costco).

After Costco shopping yesterday I had a phone conversation with a friend.  I told her I bought a nice kitchen faucet at costco.  And, get this, she asked me how much it would cost me to install it.  I was a little offended.  She completely dismissed my mechanical common sense.  I am not clueless.  I build my computers from scratch.  So, I told her that there should be no problem for me to install the faucet.  I have never replace a kitchen faucent before, but how hard can it be?

So, today, I installed the kitchen faucent. While I was at it, I remembered I still had a water filtration system I bought 2 years ago.  So, I installed the water filtration system as well.

When the same friend came over both the faucet and the filter was installed.  She saw my new sink setup, but she didn't say anything.  She didn't say "Wow" or "Hm.."   Nothing...

I almost asked her to leave.  What do I have to do to impress her?  (don't tell me, this is a family show).

Costco Tulip Bulbs

Jan
16

I bought a bag of 50 tulip bulbs from Costco about 3 months ago.  A bag of 50 bulbs were about $8.  yes, eight bucks.  It was a very good price.  Tulip bulbs usually go for $4 - $7 each at retail stores.

I bought them 3 months ago.  then I stored them in a mini refrigerator for 2 months.  It's called "forcing it" or "chill it". I just learn that technique.  I also made sure I didn't have any apples in my mini refrigerator.  They say apples will kill the bulbs.

I planted them on Christmas Eve.  I water them every morning.  I am now starting to see them sprouting out.  I am looking forward to see some progress.  I have a lot of small pots to give away to my friends and family.

More pictures coming...

Check out my cute, rustic pot setup.  I bought them at a garage sale for $1.00
Oh yeah, I should talk about garage sales sometimes... :)

October 2014 Purchases. A few more items.

Nov
09

Here are a few items that didn't make it to my blog last month (October 2014 purchases)

I recently lost 1 inch on my waist, from 31 inches to 30.  So, I bought 2 Costco belts (1 black, 1 brown) to celebrate my new look.  They were about $18 each.  They are good quality belts, much better than stupid Calvin Klein bents I bought 5 years ago.

Security night was something I needed.  I still need to install them.  I can do this no problem.  They have mixed reviews.  I hope mine will work fine.  It was super cheap after $10 instant rebate. ($39 ?).

I loved the turkey jerky.  Yum...

Flu Shot

Nov
07

I went to Costco on my lunch hour and got a flu shot.  This is my second year getting flu shot from Costco.

The process was little confusing just like the last year. But people at Costco took care of me as usual. I had to fill out the paper work at one window, get on the other line to pay, and wait for the doctor to call my name.

There was 20 minutes waiting time for the doctor to show, so I had a hotdog while waiting.  Yum~!

Then, when I got a shot? I didn't feel anything.  I mean literally - I didn't feel anything.  I kept looking at my arm at work.  I wasn't sure if I really had a shot or not.

The next day I felt something in my arm.   That confirmed I had a shot.

If you are old like me, make sure to get your flu shot.

Flu shot is $14.99 at Costco.  But, my insurance paid a couple of bucks.  So, I paid $12.23.  My insurance paid for my hotdog. Haha..

Take care everyone.  Stay healthy.

* They offered free flu shot at my work last month, but I had a cold at that time, so they turned me down.

(boring story) Waiting for Calvin Klein Jeans at Costco

Oct
15

* Warning, extremely boring story... BUT, a lot of my visitors love my boring stories.  So, here we go.

I am waiting for black Calvin Klein jeans at Costco.  I've been waiting for them for a few years now. I want size 30x30.

My waist size goes up and down, so I keep 30, 31, & 32 inch waist jeans.

I've been enjoying my 30" waist for last 3 months.   I think I look the best in 30" waist.  I look like a rock star.  I had 31 inch waist for last 10-15 years.  Did you know most professional body builders have 29" - 31" waist when they compete?

Sometimes I completely lose it and expand to 32".  It takes a few months to get back to 31" - it's not easy to lose 1 inch.

I have about 20 pairs of 32" waist dress pants.  I bought a whole bunch for my old job.  Now I don't work there any more.  Black jeans are fine at my new job.  It is so much efficient to wear jeans at work.  I can wear same pair of jeans for 3 days straight.  And I don't have to iron my pants.

So, below is my jeans breakdown / shopping list.

  • 30 Inches
    • Currently own - 1 black, 2 blue
    • Need to buy - 4 black, 0 blue
  • 31 Inches
    • Currently own - 3 black, 2 blue
    • Need to buy - 2 black (and trash old blacks).
  • 32 Inches
    • Currently own - 1 black, 1 blue
    • Need to buy - 0

*Since Costco doesn't sell 31" waist jeans, I'll have to get them elsewhere.

Happy Sunday - I Love Costco.

Oct
05

Sunday morning is always calm and glorious.  I enjoy my Sunday morning.

I am having Sunday coffee in my Sunday coffee mug.  Coffee is from Costco, of course. Chocolate cookies and Brie cheese are also from Costco. Smile

I truly enjoy my coffee and snacks from Costco.  They elevate my life-style.  I don't appreciate it often enough that I enjoy such nice products in my everyday life.  I wouldn't know what to do if there was no Costco.  Where else can buy these kind of quality products at low Costco price?  I mean, seriously, I would like to know.

When I used to live in the apartment, I would make my Sunday coffee and walk outside.  And I would say good morning to some of my neighbors.  I miss that story-book moments.  I miss that human interactions.

Of course, being in my own house is amazing.

Happy Sunday everyone. Take care... keep in touch.

European cookies are back - $3 cheaper

European cookies are back at Costco

These are the cookies that I call "Christmas Cookies", because Costco usually sell them during Christmas season.

Anyway, get this... they are $9.49 a can, $3.00 cheaper than 2 months ago.

I have 3 fresh cans of these cookies.  I am tempted to take them back for $9.00 refund.

Costco Executive Membership (2%) Rebate Check

Jan
21

This is my Costco executive card 2% rebate check this year.
$104.99 means I spent $5,249.50 at Costco last year.

Basic membership is $55.00/year
Executive membership is $110/year.

So, I need to receive $55.00 rebate check to cover my executive membership fee.  With this rebate check, I am getting paid $49.99 to be an executive member.

But, this is not the only check I will receive this year.  There is Costco/AmEx back check coming up.  I have about $270.00 there.

Costco employee who didn't care

Sep
04

I picked up a box of yogurt today at Costco.  I got to the check out line and put the yogurts on the belt.  A female Costco employee picked up my box of yogurt and found the bar code on the bottom of the box.

Then she turned my yogurt box upside down and put it on my shopping cart so her partner would scan it.  I couldn't believe what I was seeing.   I was pretty pissed.

"Yogurt should not be upside down.  Thank you.  Sorry.."  I said.

She turned my yogurts right side up as we exchanged fake smiles.

I thought it was pretty messed up.  She's not stupid.  She knew what she was doing.  Basically she didn't care.  This was the first time in many years walking out from Costco feeling mis-treated.  It was a little thing she did that ruined my perfect image about Costco.

I still have a sour taste about today's experience.

I don't think she will work at Costco for too long, not with that kind of rotten attitude.

You don't flip a man's yogurt cup.  You just don't.   If you do, we will whine about it.

Smile
